Usually these historical sites are buildings, landscapes, sites or structures of any kind that have local, regional or national significance.

Talking about history, there is one place that is one of the historical heritage sites of the Hindu hermitage in the Sleman area, Yogyakarta, namely Goa Sentono.

Get to know Sentono Cave

Not far from Abang Temple, about 100 meters below, it turns out that there is a site worth visiting called Goa Sentono. According to the information we have gathered, the Sentono Cave site is thought to be a Hindu hermitage, because on the walls of the cave there are reliefs or images of Hindu gods.

The location of the cave is in the village of Dibang, Sentonorejo Hamlet, Jogotirto Village, Berbah District, Sleman Yogyakarta. This cave was built around the 9th and 10th centuries. To reach the location is very easy if we already know the location of Abang Temple.

Sentono Cave Consists of 3 Caves

Once we reach the Sentono cave area, we can park the vehicle in a fairly large area. Then just walk the road to get to the front of the cave, then we will see there are 3 parts to the cave:

1. The first cave, has a length of 300 cm, a width of 127 cm, a height of 146 cm, inside the cave there are Linga and Yoni which are carved into the floor or bottom of the cave. On the walls there are reliefs of statues, but the reliefs are not intact or damaged, especially on the face.

2. The second cave, has a length of 60 cm, a width of 120 cm, a height of 126 cm, and on the walls of the cave there are reliefs depicting 3 statues.

3. The third cave, has a size of 180 cm, width 159 cm, height 155 cm. On the walls of the cave there are unfinished reliefs, possibly depicting a turtle, and in the middle of the cave there is a hole that serves to place objects of worship. .

Sentono Cave as a place of meditation or hermitage

From various information we have obtained that Sentono cave is an artificial cave made of natural stone as a place of meditation or Hindu hermitage at that time, and during the Hindu Mataram Kingdom, approximately this cave was built and functioned. It's quite comfortable to linger here, there are lots of trees so you don't feel like you've been here for hours. Maybe my friend is curious, just visit this site.

All sites in Indonesia, especially Yogyakarta, are a special attraction for tourists, let's continue to protect them, so that our children and grandchildren can learn and be proud of the work of their ancestors.
