Stunning Lawn Houses in Iceland

Iceland is a northern country located in northwest Europe and north of the Atlantic Ocean which consists of the island of Iceland and several small islands around it. This country is almost always in the top five in the list of the happiest countries in the world, lined with Denmark, Finland, and Norway. as the country with the happiest predicate.

Iceland has also been named the safest country in the world which has even held the title twelve times. Iceland is located about three hundred kilometers east of Greenland and a thousand kilometers from Norway, this country is the eighteenth largest island in the world and the second largest island. In Europe after England with a population of three hundred and thirty-two thousand inhabitants, Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe.

Most of the inhabitants of Iceland are Scandinavians they speak Icelandic with spelling and grammar that has hardly changed for a thousand years because of that Icelandic people can read the mountain saga about the adventures of the Vikings without difficulty which means Iceland is known to have many geysers, a type of eye. Hot water that gushes periodically releases hot water and water vapor into the air.

In addition, this country is also one of the most barren countries in Europe, most of this plain is covered with active lava, steep cliffs and filled with scattered large stones, layers of rock make this country also does not have fertile soil, only one fifth of this country is mostly in the northwestern region where vegetation can be grown to this day, as a result wood is a scarce community in the country, with wood being limited in conditions coupled with linguistic rock which is difficult to cut. Icelanders struggle to find building materials to build houses.

But uniquely, in the midst of these difficult conditions, the Icelandic settlers were able to adapt, they made buildings that became known as clump houses which were used as shelters since the days of the first Nurdin settlers, these cleverly designed houses help humans survive in an environment that is at least friendly in Europe, and interestingly the houses seem very integrated with the surrounding environment.

This residence was built with a foundation of wood and stone frames as a base, while the roof was covered with thick clumps and soil, when the frame of the house was completed, then the soil and clumps were compacted and piled as much as possible on a wooden frame, at first the appearance of the house this grass will be like a pile of dirt, because when it is freshly made there is very little grass growing on the building.

However, after a few weeks the grass began to grow wide and covered almost all parts of the house, only the small door was not covered by grass while the roof and walls of the house were sometimes overgrown with very beautiful grass flowers until the early twentieth century this room house become a very common sight in Iceland but unfortunately the urbanization project has affected the demographics of Iceland.

The relocation of residents from the countryside and the shift to new building materials made many grass houses which are generally located in rural areas self-destructed due to neglect, so that over time the building of grass houses became an increasingly rare sight in Iceland.
